Get a Maryland 443 Area Code With Burner

Welcome to the state of Maryland! Located in the northeast region of the United States, Maryland follows Eastern Standard Time (EST). In other words, the Eastern time zone.

Area code 443 stems from Maryland’s first area code established by the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) in 1947. As the population rose and cities sprouted, so did phone users. Additional area codes were published to accommodate the growth.

Cities of Maryland

Looking at the State of Maryland, you will notice that it is divided into 23 counties, spanning 9.8K square miles. Within the counties, five cities worth highlighting have the highest population across the State: Baltimore, Columbia, Silver Spring, Waldorf, and Annapolis.

The capital, Annapolis, holds an enormous amount of US history being that it is one of the oldest cities and was the former capital of the US from November 26, 1782, through August 19, 1784.

Metropolitan Areas

Familiarity with the layout of the State of Maryland is resourceful, especially when applying an area code map to the area. The metropolitan areas of Maryland make up sections of the state. This includes Baltimore, Columbia-Towson, and Washington-Baltimore.

Visiting the Largest City in Maryland

The largest city in the state of Maryland is Baltimore City. It consists of multiple counties including Anne Arundel County, Baltimore County, and Baltimore County.

Did you know Baltimore topped the charts until the 1850s as the second-largest city, with New York City being number one? No longer holding the number two ranking, Baltimore still stands its ground as number 22. As of 2024, over 550,000 residents live within the city of Baltimore, and 2.37 million people live within the metro area.

‍From 301 to 443

Typically, the city holding the prize as the largest in the area would be grandfathered the original area code. Baltimore does not follow this trend. Instead, 301 attached to the Washington D.C. suburbs servicing the western and central regions of the state.

Fast forward to October 1991. Telephones, fax machines, mobile phones, etc. showed proven growth requiring an area code overlay to 301.

Area code 410 was welcomed to the Baltimore and Eastern Shore areas. The eastern parts of Maryland contain both an urban sprightliness and coastal appeal. Baltimore, Columbia, Glen Burnie, Ellicott City, and Dundalk are covered by this overlay.

Area code 443 came to fruition in 1999. This was a well-spoken ordeal amongst the State. The area code split drove the State of Maryland to become the first mandatory 10-digit dialing state.

In 2012, Maryland’s fifth area code, 667, was announced.

How Do You Get a 443 Area Code?

Getting a specific area code is not as difficult as it appears. Even if you do not live in a county serviced by area code 443, you can still be assigned it. There are various ways to obtain it that we explore next.

New Phone, New Area Code

A common method of area code assignment starts with speaking to your phone service provider. Just moved to the area? No problem.

Inquire with your service provider about updating your phone number, and suggest the 443 area code. They accommodate the best they can at no cost to you. Your homework after the re-assignment is to update friends and family with your new phone number, area code included.

Ready to upgrade your phone and prefer a fresh start? This too is accomplished with your phone service provider.

Having a local phone number is advantageous versus having a roaming phone number. From a local business perspective, it creates a level of trust with customers identifying where the business roots branch.

This is true from a personal perspective too as it makes it easier to identify if a caller may be spam or someone worth speaking to.

Same Phone, Spare Number

It is okay if you are uncomfortable with parting with your current phone number. You can keep that number plus have a secondary one with the relevant area code of your choice all on one device.

Want to know how?

The Burner App. Familiar with the term “burner?” It is not a new concept and has been around since the 1990s. The concept has morphed from purchasing a separate “to-go” phone to using the same phone and downloading an app to use the service.

Ready, Set, Start Using Area Code 443

Using Burner to set up your new area code 443 is a surefire way you’ll be assigned it. There are no what-if statements or questions about what can go wrong. Instead, your new phone number is your choice. You set the prompts, then select the phone number.

Burner uses in-app calling, also known as VoIP, to make calls and send text messages. Services work just as they do on your assigned line from a network service provider.

Think there is a catch? All you need is an internet connection for a successful connection. Wi-fi or cell data work well.
