Thanks to cell phones, staying connected has never been easier. Let’s let the cat out of the bag by saying that just as humans make mistakes, phones or their network carriers have glitches, too.
Flaws cause panic, especially when cell phones are considered an addiction. In a recorded survey, 57% of those screened are obsessed with their phones. It is an uncontrolled fixation where the satisfaction of seeing a new message, or a like on a social media post fulfills one’s day.
It is the worst feeling in the world when, for example, a call can not be completed as dialed. At least that is the automated message landlines used to give callers. More familiar today is seeing canceled calls flash across the screen.
What Is Not a Cancelled Call?
Understanding what a canceled call means is easier once we strike out the opposite: what is not a canceled call.
Blocked Call
Think about unwanted phone calls for a moment. About 13 per month are received by the average person. And that is just from robocalls or scammers. There may be others depending on the situation that make your block list.
When a call is made from a blocked caller to your phone, it still transmits, whereas a canceled call seizes. During transmission, the call speaks to the network, which identifies it as allowed to connect or to be shut down due to the block.
So again, does a canceled call mean blocked? The answer is no, they are not the same.
Declined Call
Declined calls are not the same as canceled calls. Put yourself in the shoes of the recipient for a moment and envision this.
You are working in the corporate environment and are listening to an important presentation from your business partner. Suddenly, you feel a buzz repeatedly in your pocket as your cell phone notifies you of an incoming call. You take a peek and see it is from a friend, selecting the button to decline the call and send it to voicemail.
From your perspective, the call is finished and you’ll attend to it later. If you review your call log, it will show as a missed call.
Now, switch lanes. As the caller, it may not phase you that the call was declined and you’ll carry on by leaving a voice message.
What Is a Cancelled Call?
It is time to define a canceled call. Plain and simple. A canceled call is a call that did not connect. It is intentionally terminated. The “why” can be for various reasons.
Ending a Call Too Soon
Living in a fast-paced environment only adds to the fact that people tend to rush. We all have tasks to do within the same 24 hours each one of us has each day.
We are in haste with phone calls, too. First ring, second ring — is the recipient going to answer? With a lack of patience, or perhaps something else needs to be tended to, ending a call just before the recipient answers could create a canceled call.
How’s the Network Connection?
Take a look at your network connection, typically at the top right-hand side of the screen. Do you see any bars? How many do you count? You may have low service, causing your calls to drop.
If the count is low, try moving around until you find a stronger signal. One option is to be closer to a window or move outside of a building. Another option is to reset the network. By turning Airplane mode on and off, malfunctions could be mitigated.
If an SOS message appears, the only calls your cellular network will transmit are emergency calls. This includes text messages, too.
Friction with Software and Apps
Ever wonder why software updates are suggested or automatically pushed to your Android or Apple device? It happens on other devices, too, such as your television, when it is conveniently connected to wi-fi.
If bugs in the outdoors give you creepy crawlies, know that they also affect your device from a technical perspective. Sure, they don’t bite or tickle your skin, but they can let unwanted individuals into your personal information or cause your phone to malfunction.
When a problem arises in the background processes of your phone, it can interrupt a call causing it to cancel.
How To Avoid Cancelled Calls on an Apple iPhone
Whether you receive the canceled call message frequently or have not seen it to date, there are steps you can take to minimize the chances on an iPhone.
This includes:
- Checking network signal strength
- Give the user time for their network to pick up the call and ring
- Ensure your phone’s software is kept up-to-date
- Is the iOS version outdated? It may be time to upgrade.
Last but not least, try a hard reset on your phone or network settings.
